  • What is psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is a way to work through mental health challenges by talking with a trained professional—in our case, a registered psychotherapist. It provides a safe and supportive space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings, understand what’s going on, and find healthier ways to cope and feel better.
  • What is your approach to therapy?
Our approach to therapy is rooted in evidence-based methods, guided by empathy and compassion. We believe therapy is a collaborative process where we meet you where you're at and move forward together. Our goal is to help you build practical tools to manage life’s challenges while deepening your understanding of yourself. We also believe therapy should feel safe and approachable. That’s why we’re committed to providing a comfortable, welcoming environment—free from pressure or judgement—where we can build an authentic, supportive therapeutic relationship. Ultimately, we want you to feel supported and comfortable as you work toward your goals at your own pace.
  • What can I expect from therapy?
First and foremost, you can expect therapy to be a safe, supportive, and judgement-free space. It’s a place where you're encouraged to show up exactly as you are—no need to filter, explain away, or pretend to have it all together. Your therapist is there to meet you where you're at, not where you think you should be. Beyond that, therapy can really be whatever you need it to be. There’s no one-size-fits-all formula. It’s a collaborative process between you and your therapist, tailored to your unique needs, goals, and pace. While talking is often a big part of therapy, it's not just about sitting on a couch and having a conversation. Depending on your needs—and your therapist’s approach—your sessions might include creative practices like art, music, or movement. Some therapists also incorporate mindfulness techniques, cognitive-behavioral tools, journaling, or even suggest self-care apps and offer “homework” to help you continue building skills and insights between sessions. You’ll also be an active participant in the process. That might mean sitting with uncomfortable emotions, reflecting on tough questions, or practicing something new between sessions. It can be challenging at times, but that’s often where growth lives—and it’s also where a lot of the reward comes from. What you get out of therapy will depend, in large part, on what you’re willing to put into it. That said, you won’t be doing it alone. Your therapist is there to support and guide you every step of the way. Ultimately, therapy is what you make of it—and that’s a powerful, empowering thing.
  • What kinds of concerns can therapy help with?
At Psykhe Psychotherapy, we support clients through a range of issues—from everyday stress and relationship concerns to unresolved trauma and mental health challenges. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, going through a transition, or simply want to understand yourself more deeply, therapy can help you build coping tools, increase self-awareness, and find a greater sense of balance and healing. We are here to help.
  • What happens in the first session?
The first session is an opportunity to get to know your therapist, discuss your goals, and share what you'd like to get out of therapy. There's no pressure to "dive deep" right away—this is a time to begin building trust and decide together what the process will look like.
  • When is the right time to start therapy?
Anytime you feel ready. It’s never too early or too late. Therapy can benefit anyone—even if you're not in crisis. If you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply curious about exploring your inner world, it might be a good time to start. We offer free consultations, which can be a great way to try it out and see if it feels like the right step for you.
  • What if I’ve had a bad experience with therapy in the past?
We’re truly sorry if a previous experience left you feeling unheard or unsupported. It’s completely understandable to feel hesitant about trying therapy again. At Psykhe, we’re committed to creating a space that feels safe, respectful, and free of judgement. We’ll always meet you where you're at—working at your pace and being mindful of your comfort level. Everyone’s therapy journey is different, and it’s okay to take your time. You’re not alone, and we’re here to support you in a way that feels right for you.
  • How long will I need to be in therapy?
There’s no set timeline. Therapy is different for everyone—some clients come for a few sessions, others for longer-term support. It depends on your goals, your needs, and what feels helpful to you.
  • Are your therapists regulated professionals?

Yes. We use Jane, a secure, encrypted platform designed specifically for healthcare providers. Your information and sessions are protected.
  • What are your fees?
You can find our current fees on the Fees page of our website. Here you’ll see individual rates for each therapist and each type of service.
  • Do you offer sliding scale or reduced fees?
Yes, we do. If you’re not in a position to pay the full fee, you can discuss this with your therapist. Please note: sliding scale spots are limited and based on availability.
  • Do you offer direct billing to insurance?
Yes, we do. Psykhe is set up for direct billing with several insurance providers, which means we can submit claims on your behalf. However, it's important to verify that your specific plan covers psychotherapy services.
  • Is psychotherapy covered by insurance?
It depends on your provider and plan. Some plans cover psychotherapy, while others may only cover it if your psychotherapist is under the supervision of a psychologist. We recommend checking with your insurance company directly.
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
We require 24 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Missed appointments or late cancellations will be charged the full session fee, as that time has been reserved for you and it’s hard to fill on short notice. We appreciate your understanding!
  • Is what I say in therapy confidential?
Absolutely. Psychotherapists are legally obligated to maintain strict confidentiality. For more details, please visit the CRPO website to learn more about confidentiality standards in Ontario.
  • Are there any limits to confidentiality?
Yes, there are specific situations where confidentiality may be broken. These include: Risk of serious harm to yourself or someone else Legal requirements (e.g. child protection, court orders) You are unable to consent, and a substitute decision-maker must be contacted Investigation by a regulatory body (e.g. CRPO) These limits are explained in detail during your first session and are outlined in our consent form. If you have questions, feel free to ask your therapist or consult the CRPO's guidelines.
  • Can I access my therapy records?
Yes—you can absolutely request access to your records at any time, even if you're no longer a client. We're happy to provide them upon request. By law, we’re required to keep records for at least 10 years, so even if some time has passed, just reach out to us or your therapist and we’ll guide you through the process.
  • Will anyone know I’m in therapy?
No—your participation in therapy is completely confidential. Psychotherapists are legally and ethically bound to maintain strict confidentiality, which means no one will know you’re receiving services here unless you choose to tell them. It’s entirely up to you whether you share that information. We understand that sometimes people want to keep therapy private for personal or safety reasons—and that’s completely okay. At the same time, remember that therapy is a positive and courageous step toward well-being. There’s absolutely no shame in seeking support.
  • What does “informed consent” mean?
Informed consent means you understand what therapy is, what to expect, and that you agree to participate. If your therapist believes you’re capable of making decisions about your care, you don’t need your parents’ permission to attend therapy—or for them to know what you talk about.
  • For Parents: What should I know if my child is receiving individual psychotherapy?
Confidentiality applies. If your child is capable of giving informed consent and does not wish for information to be shared, we cannot and will not share any details of their therapy with you. As required by the CRPO’s ethical guidelines, psychotherapists are legally obligated to maintain strict confidentiality. Any questions sent by parents will go unanswered unless your child has provided consent. Please remember: The therapist’s focus is on the individual, not the family as a whole. Confidentiality helps create a safe and trusting space. Family therapy is an option if collaborative support is desired. We understand this may feel like a barrier, but these boundaries are in place to support your child’s autonomy and safety in therapy.
  • For Parents: Can I meet the therapist or be involved in sessions?
Possibly. This depends on your child’s comfort level and whether your involvement supports their goals in therapy. In some cases, a therapist may invite a parent to a session—with the client’s consent. If you're looking to participate more actively, family therapy may be a better fit.
  • For Parents: Will the therapist tell me if something is wrong with my child?
If your child has not given permission to share, the therapist cannot disclose details—unless there is a serious risk of harm or a legal requirement to report (e.g. child protection concerns). Therapists are trained to assess and respond to risk appropriately while respecting your child’s right to privacy.
  • For Youth: Can I talk to you without my parents knowing everything?
Yes—you can. If you are able to give informed consent, then what you share in therapy is confidential. That means your therapist will not share anything you talk about with your parents, unless you give permission or there’s a serious safety concern. Confidentiality is part of what makes therapy a safe space. It allows you to be open, explore your thoughts and feelings, and get support without fear of judgment or disclosure. If you're ever unsure about what stays private, you're always welcome to ask your therapist directly. Therapy is your space, and we’re here to support you.
  • For Youth: What if I want my parents involved sometimes, but not always?
That’s totally okay. Your therapist will work with you to decide when and how to involve your parents, if at all. You’re in control of who knows what—unless there’s a safety issue. If you ever want to include them for part of a session or share something together, your therapist can arrange that with your consent.
